Fancy Blu-Ray Player
Toshiba announced this week that it will be discontinuing its HD-DVD format.  The war is over!  Now we can all upgrade to Blue-Ray and have home video take a huge leap forward.  If you are as pickey as I am with electronics you’ll want to shell out extra dollars for the very best Blu-Ray Player on the market.  Surprisingly, the general consensus suggests that the best Blue-Ray player available is still the Sony PS3.  Not only do you get a high quality audiophile & videophile-approved player, but you also get an entire gaming platform with many entertaining titles, and a media-center like interface that allows you to play mp3’s and browse picture slideshows.  An optional remote control can be purchased which lets you control the device like any other component.  The quality of the PS3’s picture compares favorably with even the priciest Blue-Ray players on the market.  At $499.00 for a 60 GB system, the PS3 is a sure bet for any audio/video enthusiast.

EDAG Rolls-Royce Phantom

EDAG Rolls-Royce Phantom – The Ultimate in Comfort
EDAG calles this vehicle a land yacht because of the degree of both creature comforts and technological comforts available.  Featuring mobile internet access, email and text messaging, a built-in PC, mobile phone and a fully intelligent navigation system the EDAG Rolls-Royce Phantom doesn’t rest on its laurels.  Recognizing the relatively quick obsolescense of such technologies, this vehicle provides a means to integrate third-party devices into the vehicle’s systems, allowing the owner to upgrade each independently whenever he or she so chooses.  Like all Rolls-Royces, this model does not overlook any details in the comfort department.  One of its many features includes an articulated roof that opens to allow graceful, upright entry into the Phantom’s recessed rear seat.  The EDAG Phantom will be on display at the Geneva Motor Show next month.   No price has yet been made available for the production version of this car.

A King Mattress made for Kings
From Italian mattress designer Magniflex comes the most expensive mattress ever made.  The $75,000 Platinum bed which comes with matching $2,000 Platinum pillows takes the idea of taking it easy to a whole new level.  Made of only materials found in nature such as precious metals, and each one is tailor made and customized to meet the comfort levels of the individual consumer.  Production of the new Platinum sleep set will be limited to 10 sets, so have your checkbooks handy.  Although the Platinum Collection will be out of financial reach for most of us, the health advantages of using platinum fibers in bedding are numerous, providing added benefit to an ultra premium, ultra luxurious night’s sleep.  And if the health benefits don’t allure you in to buying this most expensive bed, then you can opt for the 22 karat gold mattress, retailing for $24,000 in queen size, and the “Argento” silver mattress at a more “affordable” $4,000 in queen size.

Most Expensive License Plate

World’s Most Expensive License Plate
No, it’s not made of solid gold — just ordinary aluminum. But it does come with the swagger of being labeled no. “1.” And that’s evidently worth a record $14.3 million.  Today, a businessman named Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri was willing to pay 52.2 dirham — the equivalent of $14.3 million — for the local license plate labeled “1” at an auction at the 7-star Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, making it the world’s most expensive license plate.  The previous record was held by Abu Dhabi plate number 5, bought at auction for $6.8 million by stock broker Talal Khouri last year.

Most Expensive Water
You wouldn’t think to go all the way to Japan for the most luxurious water, especially since water is a commodity which is basically freely available and the water standards are much better in the U.S. anyway, but that’s exactly where this $100 bottle of water comes from.  Strangely enough named, Fillico Beverly Hills, this beautifully designed frosted glass with gold paint and Swarovski crystal embedded bottle can be yours filled with the liquid of life, H2o!  You also have the option of paying $200 per bottle to get the same water bottle with with gold wings and/or a gold or silver crown.  Not sure if the water inside is any better than your standard tap, but who really cares if you have the money to spend.
