Imagine posting bail and moving into a luxury apartment after awaiting trial for allegedly sexually assaulting someone. Sounds kind of ridiculous, but when you’re rich it happens.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn was the head of the IMF up until recently. After visiting New York a maid of the hotel he was staying at accused Strauus-Kahn of sexually assaulting her. Since the accusation, Strauss-kahn has since resigned as head of the IMF. He posted a bail of $1 million cash, not something very many people can do. After he was granted bail, he needed to find a place to stay whiles awaiting trial. After being turned down by many homeowner’s he finally found a townhouse in which the owners were willing to rent it to him. The rent for this brick townhouse in New York is $50,000 a month, after posting $1 million in cash for bail, what’s another $50,000 a month in rent. The townhouse is on the market for $13,995,000. It is a 4 bedroom home located in the tony Manhattan neighborhood. The place features a home theater, gym, waterfall showers, Japanese paper walls, fireplace, and renovation. Despite all this though, Strauss-Kahn mini mansion is his prison. He will be watched 24/7. Needs to give 6 hours notice before going anywhere and will only be allowed doctor visits and religious services. Between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. he will not be allowed to leave the premises. Also he is being forced to pay his own security that will cost him about $200,000 a month.
