I’ve heard of homes costing millions of dollars, maybe $5 miliion, $10 million, or even $20 million. Then there is also that rare house that might cost a lot more than that, but never in my life could I fathom an apartment at a value of $221 million.
Who could afford this pricey asset? A Ukrainian business tycon by the name of Rinat Akhmetov, he is also the richest man in Ukraine. His networth is $16 billion so I suppose a $221 million dollar apartment is just pocket change. The $25,000 sq ft apartment is a three story penthouse located in London in the area of One Hyde Park. The apartment was bought bare and the buyer spent about $97.6 million in renovating. What I find a little strange about this transaction is that the purchase happened back in 2007, but for some reason didn’t close till about a week ago. The buyer will host the 2012 World Cup in his country at a stadium he built for $400 million stadium in his hometown of Donetsk.
