Looking for paradise? Not just some beach somewhere, but true paradise? I’ve got a hint for you: it’s in one of the most naturally beautiful places on earth, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and you don’t even need a passport to go there.
Voted the #2 resort in Hawaii and ranked #87 in the world, Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort holds a special place in my heart. That is because me and my wife stayed there this year on my honeymoon.
We were really excited about going to Hawaii for the first time and wanted to find the perfect resort for our special trip. We really wanted to experience what Hawaii was all about: natural beauty, relaxation, seeing amazing new things, and not much else. The 14-hour flight from South Florida was grueling. By the time we finally made it there we were exhausted and just wanted to sleep. However, as we walked in we couldn’t help but admire the modern-styled lobby and bar area.
We were greeted by a warm and friendly staff at the front desk. I had forgotten how much I had agreed to pay for the room in the over-zealous, honeymoon-booking mood I had been in months earlier. Let me tel you, it wasn’t cheap. I believe our room was over $600 a night. I took a deep breath and handed over my credit card for incidentals.
A very nice staff member from the front desk personally walked us past the stunningly beautiful pool, whirlpool and outdoor bar area, with the sound of waves crashing against the shore bellowed in the background. The cool Pacific Ocean air created a nice breeze that helped us feel instantly relaxed after our long trip.
When I walked into our room I’m pretty sure I gasped… literally gasped. The room was absolutely stunning, with panoramic views of the Pacific. We opened up the sliding glass doors to let the breeze and perfect Hawaii weather in. Every penny had been worth it. This was absolutely perfect.
Once we recovered from our flight, we were able admire the rest of the resort. The first thing we discovered is that it’s full of chickens. No, seriously, there are chickens all over the resort and also the entire island of Kauai. They weren’t intrusive in any way but just a cute and quirky. The momma hen with her 4 little chicks following were one of those things we’ll remember forever about our honeymoon trip. We learned from the hotel staff that Kauai had no natural predators for chickens, other than humans, which explains why there are so many of them on the island.
Being honeymooners, we didn’t want to stay at a resort with a bunch of rowdy spring breakers or noisy annoying kids. Ko’a Kea was the perfect choice. We visited several other resorts while on the island which were full of noisy tourists. Ko’a Kea was peaceful, quiet and beautiful. It was the perfect getaway. The staff was phenomenal, and we will definitely be back.
