Floating Hotel

Manned Cloud

In a throwback to the age of Zeppelin travel, you may soon find yourself gracefully floating in the clouds in the world’s first lighter-than-air hotel…

Imagine enjoying spectacular views, sipping Dom Perignon, and munching on a little Beluga caviar, while sitting in the belly of what looks like a Beluga whale which is floating in the clouds.

From French designer Jean-Marie Massaud, and his company Massaud Studio, comes the world’s first floating hotel.  The Manned Cloud is his concept for a new helium-filled airship designed to leisurely transport passengers from Paris to Madagascar in a 4-day trip they won’t soon forget.  The Manned cloud is designed to give those passengers a “timeless experience” reminiscent of the early days of Zeppelin travel.  Travel by airship came to a dramatic hault after the Hindenburg disaster, but the replacement of hydrogen with helium made airship travel very safe just in time for the market to dry up completely with the advent of commercial airplane travel.

Manned Cloud

The Manned Cloud may change all that with stellar accomodations for the elite such as a restaurant, gym, spa, sun deck and staff of 15.  The air ship will have capacity for 40 passengers, and although prices have not been published, this mode of transportation is sure to be available only to the very wealthy.  The French office of aerospace research has just signed on as a partner to the project.  However, chances are that the whale-shaped craft won’t be running for another decade, so if you’re not wealthy, start saving now.
